A talk by Lt Col Johnny Stewart on the “King’s Body Guard for Scotland (The Royal Company of Archers)”. The talk will look in brief at the history of the Royal Company before looking in more detail at the uniform, colours, membership, archery, Archers Hall and the setting up of the Charitable Trust.  Johnny has been a member for 30 years and was the Adjutant of the Royal Company from 2010 to 2020.  He will recount some stories of his experiences and also the 10 days of Operation London Bridge in September 2022.  He will be happy to answer any questions on the Royal Company, his experiences in the organisation and also his 9 years as Lord Lieutenant of Clackmannanshire.

The Museum in 2023

We celebrate our 35th year as a local museum.  We intend to again open the Museum at Easter. However, unfortunately the museum suffered a burst pipe water leak during the cold spell at the end of 2022. Luckily, damage to our archives and exhibits was kept to a minimum, but the structure was affected. We are therefore working hard to open on time with repairs already underway and a programme for re-decoration.

The Dollar Railway model and the Dollar Mine model are being combined into a fantastic new enlarged permanent exhibit to be housed downstairs. More about this in the future. We are also working on our annual exhibition which we hope this year will be about the shops and trades in Dollar.

We will run our increasingly popular Children’s Competition this Spring which rumour suggests might be about ‘Photogenic Dollar’. So children – dig out your cameras or use your phones and lets have some wonderful pictures. In addition to the usual prizes, a photo or two might find its way into next years Dollar Calendar!

Donations are always welcome – via the Donate Now button on the Support Us page, where you can also download a form to become a Friend of Dollar Museum – a wonderful way of supporting a lovely local resource.
