Jennifer Campbell

1936 – 2021

Dollar Museum Trust and The Friends of Dollar Museum would like to pay tribute to Jennifer Campbell, who died on 25th March 2021.

Jennifer played a very important role in the development and running of Dollar Museum. She was a Trustee for many years and also a very efficient Chair of the Friends Committee. She inspired us with her extensive local knowledge, her enthusiasm and friendliness, and, of course, her artistic input. She designed our beautiful museum mugs, cards, tea towels and much more. Our exhibitions owed much to her ideas and she insisted that they should live up to her extremely high standards of display.

Granny’s Kitchen was her delightful creation, with its pulley decked with immaculately white laundry, her corner cupboard with its “snecks” and the old range with its ancient pans and “girdles”. Jennifer was never more in her element than when she held a group of Primary 3 entranced as she told them of the days before electricity, and they handled old flat irons, curling tongs and washing dollies.

Visitors loved hearing her stories of the old days in Dollar and Jennifer loved discovering that said visitor – or their father, mother, son or daughter – had been one of her pupils. Or perhaps had been taught by her father, Ian. Jennifer seemed to know everyone. She will be much missed but she leaves behind a rich legacy and will always be remembered in Dollar Museum. Thank you, Jennifer.
